“The sheer joy of hearing familiar melodies again and again evokes a sense of clarity in the day guests of our facility, which surprises and moves us as project facilitators. Given the societal challenge of loneliness, it is all the more important to strengthen the unifying element of singing together and listening to one another.” – Judith Kamphues, Vokalhelden Choir Director
Sung Memories
When the voices of children and older people blend together, something truly special is created: sung memories. In this project, the Vokalhelden children, aged 8 to 12, meet guests of day care or senior living facilities between the ages of 75 and 90. Accompanied by staff and family members, singing becomes a vibrant shared experience that touches hearts.
Familiar folk songs, rounds, and evening hymns evoke memories of bygone eras, while new songs, incorporating movements and simple choreography, bring a fresh energy. This creates a sonic space where stories, experiences, and the joy of life are shared – across generations.
The aim is to evoke memories, share them, and build bridges between generations through singing together. At the same time, the children learn about the lives of the day guests, their families, and the care staff. In this way, not only does a diverse repertoire grow, but also understanding, appreciation, and a shared treasure trove of sung memories.
