FAQs
Who is the sing-along concert for?
Due to the selection and difficulty of the songs, the sing-along concert is recommended for students in grades 2 to 5.
How much does participation cost?
Participation is free of charge. Please save the date in your calendar and arrange for a replacement as soon as possible if you cannot attend with your class. Last-minute cancellations are very unfortunate, as they prevent other classes that would have loved to join from taking part.
Can parents attend the concert? Is there an audience?
No, the sing-along concert just for schoolchildren. The Vokalhelden choirs perform on stage while the school classes sit around them and sing along, accompanied by a live band.
How much rehearsal time should I plan for?
It's best to start practicing the songs with the children as early as you can. The more familiar they are with the lyrics and melodies, the more fun they will have joining in at the concert.
I haven't been able to rehearse enough with my class. Can we still come?
Absolutely! The more the children know the songs, the more fun they will have singing along, but even a little practice goes a long way. You could also share the audio files with the students or the parents, or listen to them together once.
Will we receive a booklet with the sheet music and lyrics for the concert?
No, we provide the sheet music and lyrics digitally in advance. Some classes choose to bring printed copies to the concert, but we recommend learning the songs by heart. Singing them from memory lets the children keep their hands free to clap, move, and fully join in the fun.
The songs are too difficult for my group.
You don't have to learn all the songs with your class. Even learning two or three songs is great. Or you could practice just the chorus of each song so the children can sing along enthusiastically.
I've never sung with children before. Is there any support available?
Yes! We offer one or two workshops, especially for teachers working outside their subject area, where one of our choir directors will guide you through the songs and shares practical tips for rehearsals. You will also receive the sheet music, lyrics and audio files or links to the pieces.
Can I cancel my participation?
We usually have a waiting list, so if you cancel in time, we can offer the seats reserved for your class to another class. However, for short-notice cancellations (less than 4 weeks before the concert), it's often too late to find a replacement, and the seats remain empty, which is shame for other classes who would have loved to join.
How does the concert proceed?
On the day of the concert, your class will visit the Philharmonie Berlin. The classes will be seated in the audience, while the Vokalhelden children will be on stage. Led by two choir directors and accompanied by a live band, the Vokalhelden will sing together with the children in the hall.
To make the most of the experience, please prepare your students for the acoustics in the Philharmonie. Everything will be audible, the quieter the classes are, the better everyone can sing along and enjoy the shared experience. If it's too noisy, announcements may be hard to hear and singing along will be more difficult.
That said, singing along loudly is absolutely allowed and encouraged!
Singing workshops for Hellersdorf school classes
Thanks to generous support from the Grunewald Foundation, we are excited to once again offer free singing workshops for primary schools in Marzahn-Hellersdorf this fall. For schools in other districts, workshops are currently available for a fee (€400). We will keep you updated here and via via our newsletter (school mailing list) if this changes.
Workshop duration: 45 to 90 minutes, depending on arrangements.
Number of participants: Minimum 2 classes per session, or depending on room size.
Required: a room with a piano / electric piano and a contact person to coordinate the workshop.
The workshops will be conducted by a choir director from Vokalhelden and a piano accompanist.
